Raised in a racing family, Matthew Chew has been successfully training thoroughbred race horses since 1982. A third-generation horseman, Matt operates the Matthew Chew Racing Stables in both northern and southern California. He regularly runs horses at Santa Anita, Del Mar, Hollywood Park, Golden Gate and Bay Meadows. Chew Racing designs a training regimen unique to each horse. Assessing the individual characteristics of each of the animals in his care, Matthew develops a program that builds on their strengths. The training regimen asserts consistency in treatment, and is tailored to the abilities and progress of each horse; adjustments are based on performance during training. |
Each horse is efficiently driven to the peak of its athleticism with careful attention to nutrition, exercise routines, and therapeutic strategies that develop the best characteristics of each horse; and veterinary intervention is used only when necessary. Horses are scheduled into races to win. |

All it Takes is a Nose |
Santa Anita, 16 Feb 2008: Turbo Fan pulled off an exciting photo finish victory with a picture-perfect definition of winning “by a nose.” We’ve enhanced the finish line in this picture, but there was no question about the size of the win in this race: Turbo Fan took on the favorites and took off with a victory with odds of 50-1 in this 7 furlong race for maidens with Martin Pedroza up. |

Tiger Heat goes for the win. |
And later in the afternoon, Tiger Heat was the second horse from the Chew stable scheduled to race and the second to pull in the victory. With jockey Michael Baze on board, this 3-year old bay colt had a clear win in the second 1 1/8 mile turf competition of the day. Coming in at 1:48.87, Tiger Heat (no kin to Tiger Woods!) delivered the winner’s share of a $50,000 purse. |
